Zappi vs Ohme vs Hypervolt: Which Home EV Charger Is Best in 2026?

The UK home EV charger market has matured significantly. Where once the choice was limited to a few basic units, there are now dozens of smart chargers to choose from. Three models consistently dominate our customer conversations in 2026: the myenergi Zappi, the Ohme Home Pro, and the Hypervolt Home 3. Each has a distinct set of strengths. This guide compares them directly so you can choose the right one for your setup.

myenergi Zappi: Best for Solar Diversion

The Zappi is the market-leading solar-diverting EV charger and for many solar owners, the default choice. It works by monitoring your solar generation in real time via a current transformer (CT) clamp and diverting surplus solar energy — electricity that would otherwise be exported to the grid — directly into your EV. This solar diversion mode (called Eco or Eco+ in the Zappi app) can charge your car almost entirely from solar during good weather, reducing EV charging costs to near-zero.

The Zappi is available in 7kW and 22kW variants (most domestic properties use 7kW) and integrates with other myenergi products including the Eddi solar diverter and Libbi battery system. The app is functional but less polished than Ohme's. Installation requires correct CT clamp positioning by an NICEIC-approved electrician, which we handle as a standard part of every Zappi installation and every EV charger installation we carry out. Ohme Home Pro: Best for Smart Tariff Integration

The Ohme Home Pro is the standout choice for households on Octopus Energy or other smart tariffs. It integrates directly with Octopus Go, Agile, Intelligent Octopus, and other tariff products, automatically scheduling charging to coincide with the cheapest periods without any user input required beyond initial setup. The app is consistently rated among the best in the market for clarity and usability.

The Ohme Home Pro also includes V2G (vehicle-to-grid) readiness for compatible vehicles, though few domestic vehicles support this in 2026. Its solar diversion capability is less sophisticated than the Zappi's — it works but cannot match the Zappi's real-time CT clamp diversion for maximising solar-charged EV miles. For households without solar who primarily want to minimise grid charging costs through smart tariff scheduling, the Ohme Home Pro is the best option available. Installed pricing is confirmed at survey.

Hypervolt Home 3: Best All-Rounder

The Hypervolt Home 3 is the newest of the three and arguably the most premium general-purpose smart charger. Its build quality and design are exceptional — it is one of the best-looking EV chargers available and comes in multiple colour options. It supports smart scheduling, integrates with multiple energy tariffs, and includes a solid app with good historical charging data. Solar diversion is available but again less refined than the Zappi.

The Hypervolt is a strong choice for households who want a stylish, reliable, feature-complete charger without a specific solar diversion or smart tariff priority. It comes with a 3-year warranty as standard — longer than most competitors. We confirm the installed price at your free survey.

Side-by-Side Summary

If you have solar panels and want to maximise solar miles: choose the Zappi. If you are on Octopus Energy and want fully automated smart tariff charging: choose the Ohme Home Pro. If you want the most premium all-round charger and the tariff integration is a secondary concern: choose the Hypervolt. For households with solar and a smart tariff, a Zappi with Octopus Flux or Agile gives the most complete solution — the Zappi handles daytime solar diversion while the tariff optimises overnight grid charging.

All three are available and installed by Premier Electrical Renewables across Yorkshire, including EV charger installation Sheffield and EV charger installation Wakefield. Zappi vs Ohme vs Hypervolt: 2026 spec and price comparison

Here is the head-to-head spec and price comparison for the three most popular smart home EV chargers in the UK, current for 2026. All three are 7.4kW single-phase chargers – the practical maximum on a standard domestic supply – so the differences come down to solar capability, smart-tariff integration, app quality, warranty and installed cost.

Our verdict

If you have solar panels, buy the myenergi Zappi v2.1 – its Eco+ surplus mode genuinely diverts spare solar into your car and it plays nicely with batteries. If your priority is the cheapest overnight charging on a smart tariff such as Octopus Intelligent Go, the Ohme Home Pro wins on tariff integration and is the cheapest of the three to fit. If you want the best app and the smartest-looking unit and you do not need true solar diversion, the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is the one to pick. For most Yorkshire and Greater Manchester homes we recommend the Zappi as the safest all-round choice, because it future-proofs you for solar even if you do not have panels yet.

Whichever you choose, it must be fitted by an NICEIC-approved electrician. Book a free EV charger installation survey and we will confirm the right charger and a fixed price for your property.
